“Albino python” eats large crocodile meat

Eveп iп oυr dog-eat-dog world, υпυsυally large feasts might piqυe oυr iпterest. Α female Bυrmese pythoп, aboυt 16 feet (5 meters) loпg, receпtly swallowed a 76-poυпd (35-kilogram) female deer пear Florida’s Everglades Natioпal Park. The hυпter aпd the prey both died as a resυlt of the ordeal—the sпake was shot iп the head with a shotgυп, as is cυstomary, accordiпg to CNN—bυt the graphic photographs that followed told the story. The head of the fish is claimed to be a carp, but it looks exactly like a bird, which causes people to discuss continually

Almost everything you’ve ever heard about suckers is probably wrong. Not just wrong. Flat-out crazy wrong. Yeah, I’ve heard all the “facts” about suckers, too. Many times. They’re dirty. Non-native. A sign of polluted water. Garbage eaters.  Egg  eaters. Not to mention horrifically ugly. They compete with native fish, like trout and bass. There are too many. They’re overtaking the waters. The best thing to do? Catch ‘em and throw ‘em on the bank. You’ll be doing the stream a favor. No, no, no. Hell no. I understand the depth of the sucker’s image problem. I do. Even the name – sucker! – suggests the PR challenges that lie ahead. But I don’t want to just dispel sucker myths here. That’s not enough. No: I’m suggesting that suckers would serve us well as a new symbol for rethinking fisheries management, water quality, fishing ethics and freshwater conservation. This isn’t hyberbole. I’m serious. Move over trout. I have seen the future, and it’s for suckers. Myth ...

275 Artifacts Were Found In The Wreck Of A 19th-Century Ship That Sank During The Search For The Northwest Passage By Archaeologists

Image
The human story behind one of History ’s most sensationalized maritime cold cases is coming to light. Parks Canada, the agency overseeing wreckages of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, has completed its latest excavations of the former in the waters near Gjoa Haven. Researchers unearthed 275 artifacts, including a leather folio that could contain scraps of the crew’s own writing. “HMS Erebus and HMS Terror are some of the best-preserved wooden wrecks in the world,” Parks Canada told Artnet News. “But reduced ice cover and increased sea swells caused by climate change are believed to be accelerating the deterioration.” Captained by explorer Sir John Franklin, both vessels originally departed England in 1845 with 128 crew members, in search of the Northwest Passage linking the Atlantic and Pacific via the Arctic. A note discovered since detailed the failure of the expedition. Both ships became trapped in ice. There were no known survivors. Night view of the HMS Erebus ice cam...

Israel’s Discovery Of 7,000-Year-Old Cotton Fibers Is Illuminating The Inner Workings Of A Prehistoric Global Trade Network

Image
Microscopic remains of 7,000-year-old cotton are the earliest such fibers to have been found in the ancient Near East, offering new insights into the ancient village of Tel Tsaf in Israel. Among the mud-brick architectural structures that have been discovered at the site are lots of well-preserved prehistoric organic materials, providing promising evidence about the area’s past and former inhabitants. For example, traces have previously been found of social beer drinking and food storage. Textiles from this period rarely survive long enough to be studied by historians, but samples of sediment collected from the objects found at the site can be analyzed using sophisticated microscopes that will reveal any remaining traces of organic material, including fibers. 7,000-year-old cotton fibers were found during an archaeological dig at Tel Tsaf in Israel. Two Mysterious Sarcophagi Found After The Notre Dame Cathedral Fire Have Their Origins Identified By Archaeologists

Image
Last Friday, French archaeological agency INRAP shared new insights regarding two sarcophagi unearthed during pre-restoration assessments at Notre Dame in March. In partnership with the University of Toulouse, INRAP announced they’ve identified one body as a high priest and learned more about the other “illustrious stranger,” a knight. Excavation of one of the skeletons. INRAP has handled preventative Archaeology at Notre Dame since July 2019. Months after finding these preserved lead sarcophagi buried where the cathedral’s transept crosses its nave, INRAP sent them to be opened at the Toulouse University Hospital, where they were searched and then analyzed using scanners and X-rays from November 21 to 26. Experts donned protective garb to shield them from the toxic metal, and used sterilized instruments to protect the graves. The high priest’s coffin was found in a stone vault eight inches underground, but the anonymous knight was buried several feet deep, in...

An Indian Tiger Reserve Has Located Over 20 Old Buddhist Temples and Murals

Two-dozen previously unrecorded Buddhist caves have been found in the Tala range of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, the Archaeological Survey of India reported last week. A selection of the caves in question The caves date back to the 2nd to 5th century BCE, but researchers also found more recent relics, including 26 temples, 46 sculptures, two votive stupas, 24 Brahmin inscriptions, 19 water structures, scattered stone board Game s, and ancient coins. “The time period of the findings covered the reigns of the kings Shri Bhimsena, Maharaja Pothasiri, Maharaja Bhattadeva,” the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) wrote on Twitter. The caves have been traced to the Mahayana sect of Buddhism—and to the same milieu as the UNESCO-designated Ajanta caves in Aurangabad, according to Indian Express. ASI determined the temples are from the 9th to 11th century, and the water structures are from 2nd to 15th centuries C.E. The month-long undertaking, led by archaeologist S...

Roman-Era Warfare’s Sonic Characteristics Are Revealed By The Mouthpiece Of An Ancient Horn -

Image
A mouthpiece from an ancient Roman cornu (Latin for “horn”) has been discovered at the old Roman fort of Vindolanda. The metal horn was a musical instrument used to broadcast orders to the troops during battle. A Roman cornu, a type of musical instrument used to signal orders during battle, was found at Vindolanda, an archaeological site near Hadrian’s Wall. Vindolanda (translated as “white field”), near Hadrian’s wall in the north of England, was under Roman occupation from around 85 C.E. to 370 C.E. and is currently an active archaeological site. The cornu, made of copper alloy, was discovered deep in the silt beneath the remains of a schola, a clubhouse for army officers. It has undergone conservation work during which stratigraphic analysis dated it to 120 C.E. to 128 C.E. By Finding A Rare 16th-Century Ship, English Quarry Workers Have Struck Gold For Fans Of Elizabethan History

Image
Last April, workers dredging for gravel in a quarry just outside Dungeness in Kent, England inadvertently turned up the remains of a shipwreck. Perplexed by the discovery, they called upon the services of Wessex Archaeology , which swiftly recognized the historical significance of the find, determining it to be a 16th-century vessel, one of the very few from the era to have survived. A still of a 3D model of a 16th-century ship found at a quarry in Kent. Wessex Archaeology would excavate more than 100 timbers that made up the ship’s hull, with support and funding from Historic England. These components—from the massive planks to the round pegs pinning these boards together—were crafted out of English oak, which, through dendrochronological analysis, has been dated to between 1558 and 1580. “To find a late 16th-century ship preserved in the sediment of a quarry was an unexpected but very welcome find indeed,” Andrea Hamel, the marine archaeologist at Wessex Arc...

Electrical Connector Discovered In A Stone 100,000 Years Old

Image
Researchers who have looked at the artifact say that it is an electrical part set in stone that is 100,000 years old. It is an artifact that not many people have heard of, but its parts are very interesting. Over the years, a lot of things have been found that don’t fit with what most people think about history, archaeology, and anthropology. In 1998, an electrical engineer named John. J. Williams was hiking in North America when he saw what looked like an electrical connector sticking out of the ground. The object was found in the middle of nowhere, far away from cities, airports, factories, electronic or nuclear plants, and other places where people live. Williams dug deeper into the ground and found a device with three plugs that was built into the rock. Williams wouldn’t say where the object was found, which has led skeptics to think that this artifact is just another fake. Does it? Today, the artifact is called the Pet radox. It is a device that has an ele...
