African leaders leave Russia summit without grain deal or a path to end the war in Ukraine

African leaders are leaving two days of meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin with little to show in response to their requests to resume a deal that kept grain flowing from Ukraine and to find a way to end the war there NAIROBI, Kenya -- African leaders are leaving two days of meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin with little to show for their requests to resume a deal that kept grain flowing from Ukraine and to find a path to end the war there. Putin in a press conference late Saturday following the Russia-Africa summit said Russia’s termination of the grain deal earlier this month caused a rise in grain prices that benefits Russian companies. He added that Moscow would share some of those revenues with the “poorest nations.” That commitment, with no details, follows Putin’s promise to start shipping 25,000 to 50,000 tons of grain for free to each of six African nations in the next three to four months — an amount dwarfed by the 725,000 tons shipped by the U.N. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., floated an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, a sudden escalation as Republicans ramp up allegations of wrongdoing by the president. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has begun floating the possibility of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, a sudden escalation as Republicans ramp up allegations of wrongdoing by the president and his family. During an appearance on Fox News Monday night, McCarthy leaned on testimony from two Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers and an FBI document containing unverified allegations of corruption to suggest that Biden has used his career in government to enrich and protect his family -- a claim for which Republicans have provided no definitive evidence and the White House vociferously denies. "When President Biden was running for office, he told the American public that he's never talked about business, he said his family has never received a dollar from China, which we now proved is not true. How behavioral economics can help you save on airfare

When booking flights, navigating extra fees and upgrades can be overwhelming, which is no accident It’s not just you: Shopping for airfare is harder than ever. Choosing between basic economy and regular economy fares and navigating add-on fees makes booking more complicated, and that’s no accident. Airlines are harnessing lessons from a still-emerging academic field known as behavioral economics to nudge customers into spending more. “Behavioral economics was developed by incorporating ideas from psychology into standard economic theories,” says Cait Lamberton, a professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. “If you see a deal that is available for only a short amount of time, and you pay more than you usually would, standard economics would say you’ve made an irrational decision. Behavioral economics says that no, what your brain is doing is responding to scarcity.” These seemingly irrational choices are called “biases," many of which can affect h

After decades of struggle in Israel, dozens of African Hebrew Israelites face deportation

The African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem made their way to Israel from the United States in the 1960s DIMONA, Israel -- For two years, Toveet Israel and dozens of other residents of the Village of Peace have lived in fear. Dimona, a city on the edge of the nation of Israel’s Negev Desert, has been her home for 24 years. Her eight children were born here and know no other country. Now, she and 130 other undocumented members of the African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem face deportation. Receiving the order to leave two years ago was a “moment of disbelief” for Israel, 53. “I feel like the government has been merciless to me and my children,” she said. The Hebrew Israelites, as the spiritual community's members are commonly known, first made their way to Israel from the United States in the 1960s. While members do not consider themselves Jewish, they claim an ancestral connection to Israel. Around 3,000 Hebrew Israelites live in remote, hardscrabble towns in southern Israel. The Vi
