Bukayo Saka named 2022/23 PFA Young Player of the Year

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has been named the 2022/23 PFA Young Player of the Year. The England international was in dazzling form for Arsenal last year, racking up 14 goals and 11 assists as he established himself as one of the finest wingers in world football and nearly led Mikel Arteta's side to Premier League glory. This was the fourth year in a row in which Saka was nominated for the award and the Arsenal star has now finally picked up the prize. Saka becomes the sixth Arsenal player to win the award, following Tony Adams (1986/87), Paul Merson (1988/89), Nicolas Anelka (1998/99), Cesc Fabregas (2007/08) and Jack Wilshere (2010/11) in getting his hands on the trophy. Saka finished top of a shortlist which also included Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who, like Saka, was also nominated for the Player of the Year award as well. Fellow Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli was also in the running after his own sensational season, which yielded 15 goals and five assists. A

Canada to plan how it will make internet giants pay for news

OTTAWA: The Canadian regulator responsible for implementing the country's online news law on Thursday said it will start setting up a framework for negotiations between news organizations and internet giants this autumn, with the aim of initiating mandatory bargaining by early 2025. Canada's Online News Act, part of a global trend to make tech firms like Alphabet's Google and Meta's Facebook pay for news, became law in June but has not yet come into effect. Both companies have said the law is unworkable for their Business es, and Meta has already ended news sharing on its platforms. Google also plans to block news from search results in Canada before the law comes into effect. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has been tasked with finalizing rules, and will be the overseeing authority for negotiations between Canadian news publishers and online platforms. The regulator will hold a public consultation regarding the framework

Chelsea vs Luton Town - Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Image
Following a difficult defeat at West Ham United, Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to see a reaction from his Chelsea players when they host Luton Town on Friday night. The Blues have not had the start to the season they would have hoped for after another transfer window of big spending, picking up just one point from their opening two league matches. Welcoming Luton to Stamford Bridge may seem like a simple fixture on paper, but nothing is ever straightforward in the Premier League . Luton will be well rested for their trip to Chelsea. Their Premier League fixture against Burnley was postponed due to ongoing renovations at Kenilworth Road, meaning they have had two weeks to put a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion behind them. Here is everything you need to know for Chelsea vs Luton. Where is Chelsea vs Luton happening? Location : London, England Stadium : Stamford Bridge Date : Friday 25 August Kick-off Time : 20:00 BST / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT Referee : Robert Jones

Aleix Espargaro “angry" a lot of people in MotoGP forget Pol’s achievements

Image
These comments came after Pol Espargaro finished sixth in the sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix in just his second weekend back in action following four months on the sidelines with serious injuries. The eight-time MotoGP podium finisher suffered fractures to his jaw and his back after hitting an unprotected tyre barrier in FP2 at the season-opener in Portugal, and was only cleared to ride again at the British GP earlier this month. The Tech3 rider took the chequered flag just under half a second adrift from factory KTM counterpart Jack Miller in fifth, while team-mate Augusto Fernandez was last. The younger Espargaro brother noted after the race that he was still lacking power in his neck muscles after so long out, but Aleix feels given what he did in the Austria sprint – and based on his past successes – that people “have to be more patient” with him. “A lot of people in this paddock, and this makes me very angry , forget who Pol is, what he

How Moises Caicedo fee compares to most expensive signings in football history

Image
Moises Caicedo is no stranger to a drawn-out transfer saga. Years before Chelsea began peppering Brighton with dizzying offers only to be outbid by Liverpool, before the Blues bid £115m to secure his services this week, Caicedo was the subject of a multi-club tussle while he was still in Ecuador with Independiente del Valle. Manchester United, AC Milan, Brighton, Chelsea and Belgian side Club Brugge were all interested in the midfielder after a rapid ascension in senior South American football. Three separate agencies also tried to represent Caicedo and get a slice of any potentially lucrative deal. Ultimately, Brighton cut through the chaos to snag Caicedo for just £4.5m in 2021. After less than 50 starts for the Seagulls, the 21-year-old has now become one of the most expensive players in the History of the sport. Here's how Caicedo's £115m move to Chelsea compares to the game's other costly sagas. Moises Caicedo to Chelsea Moises Caicedo has been a wanted man this summ
