Polish and U.S. officials have signed an agreement in Warsaw to move forward with the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant WARSAW, Poland -- Polish and U.S. officials signed an agreement Wednesday in Warsaw to move forward with the construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant as part of an effort by the Central European nation to move away from polluting fossil fuels. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called the deal to build the plant at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the Pomerania region near the Baltic Sea the beginning of a new chapter for Poland, and described nuclear energy as a stable and clean energy source. “The only clean, stable energy source that is technologically proven and verified in terms of safety is nuclear energy, which is having its big day today,” he said at the ceremony. Morawiecki's government had announced last year that it had chosen the U.S. as its partner for the project. A consortium made up of Westinghouse and Bechtel signed th...

Judge rules Donald Trump defrauded banks, insurers while building real estate empire

A judge has ruled that Donald Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House NEW YORK -- A judge ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House. Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling in a civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, found that the former president and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing. Engoron ordered that some of Trump’s Business licenses be rescinded as punishment, making it difficult or impossible for them to do Business in New York, and said he would continue to have an independent monitor oversee the Trump Organization’s operations. Trump's lawyer and spokesperson Alina Habba said they intend to appeal the decision, calling it “an affront to our ...

X reacts as points shared by Arsenal and Tottenham in north London derby

It's the Premier League derby that never disappoints and it was more of the same on Sunday afternoon as Arsenal and Tottenham played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Emirates . Both sides had enjoyed unbeaten starts to the league campaign before the kick-off whistle blew to commence the north London derby and there were thrills and spills for fans of the two rivals clubs to enjoy. The Gunners' were dominant in this fixture during 2022/23, winning both games convincingly as Mikel Arteta's free-flowing football trumped Antonio Conte's rigid and defensive approach but Spurs have looked a different beast under Ange Postecoglou and the early signs pointed to an open and fast-paced game. However, calamities have rarely been far away for Tottenham in this fixture and it was some rash defending from Cristian Romero which helped Arsenal take the lead midway through the first half. Bukayo Saka drifted off the wing and fired towards goal, his shot catching Romero on the way t...

Fatal collision that killed 2 pilots brings a tragic end to the Reno air show and confounds experts

Aviation experts say it was likely a visibility issue that caused two racing pilots to collide in mid-air while preparing to land in Reno last weekend RENO, Nev. -- The mid-air collision that killed two racing pilots in Reno last weekend is confounding aviation experts. The first- and second-place winning pilots, both Californians, crashed Sunday at the National Air Race Championships, possibly because of an aircraft blind spot, glare from the sun or even a brief moment of lost focus, experts said. But many are dumbfounded by the fact that such experienced pilots who’d raced their T-6 warbirds at the same site so many times couldn't navigate trouble just seconds away from safely returning to the tarmac at Reno-Stead Airport. “Honestly, it is very hard for me to find an explanation for how those two expert pilots ended up in the same piece of airspace at the same time,” Reno Air Racing Association CEO Fred Telling said. Telling, who raced T-6s for 10 years, doubts there was a mec...

Trump's campaign defended his record from criticism from other Republican leaders on abortion in the wake of Trump denouncing DeSantis for signing a six-week ban Former President Donald Trump's campaign on Wednesday defended his record from criticism from other Republican leaders on the issue of abortion in the wake of Trump denouncing rival Ron DeSantis for signing a six-week ban in Florida. In an interview that aired Sunday on NBC, Trump declined to say whether -- if he were president again -- he would sign federal legislation banning abortion. He also declined to say at what cutoff during pregnancy he supported imposing bans, argued it was "probably better" to leave the issue to the states and labeled Gov. DeSantis' decision to sign a six-week abortion ban in Florida "a terrible thing and a terrible mistake." At the same time, Trump trumpeted his role in striking down national abortion protections through his three Supreme Court appointees. "I ...
