Inter Miami’s Jordi Alba: “Hopefully we win every trophy”

The 2024 MLS season officially begins for Inter Miami, a team that this Wednesday will kick-off the season welcoming Real Salt Lake at Chase Stadium as their first official test of the year (Feb 21, 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.).

Although Miami’s extensive pre-season campaign did not bring the expected results on the field, is is now in the past and within the club they are choosing to focus on the more positive aspects to correct ahead of the long season that awaits them.

This Tuesday, at a press conference, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino spoke where he commented on the fitness of both Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.

After the manager, Spanish full-back Jordi Alba opened up on his expectations for this season, saying that the squad are well aware of the demands and what is expected of them this year.

‘Now we are a great team’, says Alba

Alba highlighted his desire to win all the trophies that Inter Miami aspire to this year, but assured that for that to happen the squad they have prepared will have to prove it Game by Game on the field, as names are not enough to achieve the objectives, among which the MLS Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup stand out.

“There is no pressure”, he said. “In the end, I think that since our arrival and what I know on a personal level, we have improved a lot as a team when it comes to playing and comPeting, the team has changed a lot compared to when I arrived.”

“The team has made a big change compared to when I arrived, and now we are a great team, there are big names, but we have to prove it on the pitch, it will be difficult, hopefully we can win every trophy. It won’t be easy, but I understand the enthusiasm of the fans and the expectations of the team and we have to prove it, but we are on the right track,” Alba added.

With the journalists asking about the issue of the favouritism in the Inter Miami squad, Alba analysed his presence alongside that of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets. From his point of view, he has not changed in the approach to the Game and will only look to help the rest of the squad alongside the aforementioned teammates, as well as learn something himself from MLS veterans.

“We are convinced that we can win titles and that we can continue to learn from the players who have been here longer in MLS and in our experience be able to help the younger players. It’s clear that we have won a lot of titles, but we want to keep winning and comPeting: we always have and always will,” he concluded.
